Fosamax Lawyer & Attorney |
|
Many women take drugs called biophosphonates to increase bone density. Studies have shown that this class of drugs may cause a condition known as osteonecrosis of the jaw (ONJ). It is also known as “dead jaw syndrome” and biophosphonate associated osteonecrosis (BON). Osteonecrosis of the jaw causes the bone tissue in the jaw not to heal after minor traumas, like dental extractions.
"Lawsuits have been filed against Merck alleging that the pharmaceutical giant knew that its drug Fosamax might cause osteonecrosis of the jaw but failed to warn patients and doctors of this risk. Drugs in the same class, such as Actonel also carry the same risk."
A Food and Drug Administration review suggests that osteonecrosis of the jaw (ONJ) is a risk of all bisphosphonates. |
