Zyprexa Lawyer & Attorney |
|
On June 9, 2005, Lilly announced that it will settle for $690 Million approximately three-quarters of the liability lawsuits stemming from claims that the label on Zyprexa medication boxes failed to provide adequate warning that the drug could put patients at increased risk for developing diabetes. As recently as April 11, 2005 the FDA issued an alert advising health care providers, patients, and patient caregivers to safety issues regarding Zyprexa.
"Thousands of claims have been brought by people who took Zyprexa and allege that they have developed irreversible movement disorders and diabetes from the anti-psychotic medication."
Evidence dating back to the 1950’s showed that drugs similar in molecular structure to Zyprexa created an increased risk of diabetes, pancreatitis, hyperglycemia and other pancreas-related illnesses. Nevertheless, Eli Lilly & Co. continues to aggressively market the drug which was responsible for about one-third of Lilly’s $4.3 billion in sales in 2004. |
